Booking Through Thursday – Fantasy and Sci-Fi
From Booking Through Thursday:
One of my favorite sci-fi authors (Sharon Lee) has declared June 23rd Fantasy and Science Fiction Writers Day.
As she puts it:
So! In my Official Capacity as a writer of science fiction and fantasy, I hereby proclaim June 23 Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Day! A day of celebration and wonder! A day for all of us readers of science fiction and fantasy to reach out and say thank you to our favorite writers. A day, perhaps, to blog about our favorite sf/f writers. A day to reflect upon how written science fiction and fantasy has changed your life.
So … what might you do on the 23rd to celebrate? Do you even read fantasy/sci-fi? Why? Why not?
To celebrate Fantasy and Science FictioN Writer’s day, I am going to re-read the book ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’ by Audrey Niffenegger. This is just on my list of top 20 favorite books of all time and now that a movie was created based on the beautiful but complicated love story, I am so eager to re-visit the scenes again.
To answer the 2nd question, most of the titles that I read have to do with science fiction or fantasy. (Not including romance of course because I have enough collection to fill four bookshelves.) I just find it amazing how you can escape from books that talk about time travels, body snatchers, mind invasions, super powers like telekinesis, mind reading, parallel worlds and many more. I also love all the Harry Potter books especially Order of the Phoenix and Deathly Hallows, Inkheart and the Griffin and Sabine trilogy.

I haven’t read ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’ but I’ve read lots of great reviews about this! I’ll have to check this out!
I have Time Traveller’s Wife on Mt. TBR, too. Some day I’ll get to it. I’m waiting for that freak blizzard that shuts me in, alone, for a week… giving me all the quiet time to read, wait… a week ain’t long enough! a five-year-freak blizzard, maybe. LOL.
I said something similar for the why. You deal with the 5 senses and reality everyday, why NOT escape into fantasy?
I’ve The Time Traveler’s Wife too but I didn’t realize that comes under this category, that increases my list too
That’s a great way to celebrate! I loved The Time Traveler’s Wife.
I haven’t read TTW, but I’ve made a mental note to read it someday.

I’ve been meaning to read Inkheart – heard its great!
I, too, have been meaning to read The Time Traveler’s Wife.
Ooo! The Time Traveler’s Wife! I loved that book. . . and totally forgot about it when writing my post!
I haven’t read The Time Traveler’s Wife, but I saw it in the store recently and it does look good.
I have yet to read the Time Traveler’s Wife, but hear fantastic things about it.
I enjoyed The Time Traveler’s Wife, too!
Thanks for reminding me of Griffin and Sabine.
I don’t read sci-fi/fantasy too much. With the exception of The Chronicles of Narnia. I did read Sara Addison Allen’s Garden Spells and The Sugar Queen, but I don’t know if they fall in to that category or not. That’s more like ‘magical realism’, I guess. I’ve never read The Time Travelers Wife, but heard it was really good.
I’m with Jess – I must get around to reading the Time Traveler’s Wife.
Griffin and Sabine! I remember reading that when I was in high school. My aunt had a copy and I was just amazed by the artwork at first, but I then loved the story.
Here is mine
