NOOK

I received this from my email today. It’s something about those Mother’s day treats. As soon as I saw it, I wonder how it will compete with Kindle. This gadget currently sells at $259.00.

Well-prepared

Ever since we bought a life insurance for me and my husband, I just feel so secure and confident that our daughter will be fine if something happens to us. That was five years ago and now that we’ve finished paying both our policies, we are thinking of getting another one now that a new baby is on the way. After a couple of computations, we decided we can afford it without having to give up one of our little pleasures such as semi-annual trips and occasional splurge on gadgets and electronics. And even if we do have to give up some (not all) of them, it’s totally fine because being prepared for the future is much important.

Laptop Cooler to Save the Day

I’ve had my laptop with me for two years now. I used to have a desktop for heavier programming but since my Dell Studio is enough to handle all my graphics applications and has a huge monitor, I’ve decided to use it for just about everything. It was a bad decision, I now realized. It seems my 9-cell battery is about to give up and I’m afraid that the top cover getting too hot could be a result of something more serious. My one option is to get a smaller laptop for everyday computing. This would significantly reduce the strain from my main machine, giving it time to recuperate for hours. Aside from that, I really need to invest on some laptop accessories. My husband, who is a firm believer of supplementing your gadgets with accessories and improvements never fails to remind me how I should take care of my laptop more. I believe him now, after two years of not listening, so I hope I’ll still be able to save my machine.

imageAs I was searching for laptop accessories online, I found some really  nice suggestions for coolers and laptop stands. I was surprised that they are not as expensive as I thought. In fact, most of them range from $10-$60 depending on the number of features. A laptop stand could be as simple as a small platform placed on your lap. It’s main objective is to provide ventilation for the laptop and on some, give your wrists a break from a flat keyboard. Some people I know would love to build one on their own using stuff around the house but for those who simply have no time, this notebook cooler from Zalman will be your best option.

Things I’d Rather Not Do Today

Bid on web design projects. I just have so many backlogs I can’t afford to take a break during weekends. It’s a good thing I know but I want to double my monthly quota so I’m really torn. I don’t want to miss any good projects out there.

Research / compile articles about pulse oximeters. Again,I simply have no time to do this for my brother-in-law so he’ll just have to do this himself.

Hit the treadmill. I’m so huge now that I’m on my last trimester so this is something that I must do. Yet my body and mind will not cooperate, not when work is calling.

Talk to our real estate agent. Not in the mood to discuss properties and payables at this time of the day.

Stay in front of the computer for 8 hours. I really wish I could start my vacation early. The reason I’m blogging now is just to distract myself and hopefully get some inspiration so I can start designing.

Graduation Gift

My brother-in-law is graduating at the end of this month. I wonder what I could give him? My husband wanted to give him a watch but we learned that my mother-in-law has already bought one. Someone suggested a leather briefcase because it’s something that he can use for his first job. However, I don’t think briefcases are still in when there are so many messenger bags and other more hip alternatives to choose from. Even some of the CEOs that I know don’t use briefcases anymore. Anyway, I guess a pair of leather shoes or leather messenger bag will be a great accessory to his first day in the real world.

Quick Beauty Fix for Your Home

My husband and I was watching a home makeover show when we saw this really cool eagle weathervane. At first, I didn’t know that it has a purpose but according to my husband who loves all kinds of trivia, I learned that it was used in the earlier times as a tool for indicating wind direction. When designing a weather vane, the ornament must have unequal area on either side of center and must have equal mass on either side of the center. For someone who has no sense of direction such as yours truly, this could serve as a great resource for determining which direction a wind is coming from.

Stronger and Leaner

Now that my husband is serious in getting back into shape, his wish lists have changed. From gadgets and electronics, he now wants a pull up bar, work bench, and several plates in different weights. I want to encourage him by getting him one of these. After all, he’s doing me a favor by exercising. I don’t have to worry about his health plus he’s getting stronger which will be helpful later on when the new baby is here. In fact, that’s one of the reasons why he decided to lift weights again. He felt like he was getting old because he kept having muscle pains and discomforts after a 20-minute basketball game. Now that he’s back to eating healthy and getting some muscle definition, he feels like he can run for an hour and still have strength to enjoy the rest of the night either with the kids or with his friends. Good for him and I hope his determination to stay fit will rub on me as soon as I give birth.
