Rules for a Face to Face Encounter
In the age of the World Wide Web and online dating, meeting someone has
taken on new meaning. Stories don’t happen in a bar or at the local church anymore. Now a days, people meet in cyber space first before deciding to meet face to face.
While you may think you know someone well through hours of conversation online, you must be careful when deciding to meet them face to face. It’s a crazy world out there and people aren’t always what they seem, but if you follow a few simple guidelines you can be safe on your face to face meeting. First thing you want to do is to make sure you meet at a public and well lit place. Offer to meet at a restaurant and grab lunch. This not only makes for a low pressure first encounter but it also makes sure you keep your encounter public and much more safe.
If you are going to go out, the best thing to do is let a friend know where you’ll be. This isn’t to say that anything will happen but it doesn’t hurt to let a friend know where you are. It also makes sense that if for any reason you decide to change locations that you should shoot your friend a text message letting them know of the location change.
And last, but not least, make sure you get a description of the person you are meeting. If the description turns out to be different than the person you are meeting then you should think about cutting the date short. If they are lying to you about their appearance then what else are they lying to you about? Dating is supposed to be fun and if you follow steps to be safe, dating can and will be fun.
