Home Office Setup

Posted in computers on June 2nd, 2011 by admin – Be the first to comment

Since I can’t blog about my new baby just yet, let me leave you with a photo of my setup at home. I’m really loving my Macbook Pro and don’t regret the switch. Now if only I could fix my HDMI connection, I could use my 22″ LCD monitor again. It just died a few weeks ago so I’ve been designing web sites in a small monitor.

Scrapbook Styles

Lately, I’ve been using scrapbook elements for designing web sites. It’s perfect for those who want out-of-the-box designs and provide a feel that they can touch something. WordPress themes with similar concept are also getting popular so I’ve decided to do a roundup of some of them. See below for what I found online. source

MBP 2011 – Will You Be Mine?

Just waiting for stocks now.

Boy, am I glad I waited. (Actually, I spent my budget for the Macbook Pro 2010 to buy a not so important girly item)

Up to 2x faster processors and 3x faster graphics.
Next-generation quad-core and dual-core Intel processors.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro now features a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 processor or the fastest dual-core processor available — the 2.7GHz Intel Core i7. With Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.4GHz, these processors allow the 13-inch MacBook Pro to perform up to twice as fast as the previous generation.

I do hope this one won’t sleep through my fingers again.

First Pay, First Machine

There are so many HP and gateway laptops on sale lately. Which is why my youngest brother in law is so excited to receive his first credit card so he can shop for his first laptop at 0% interest for 6 months. He was going to purchase our other laptop but we figured he’d be much better with a brand new one. Plus he could tell his future self that the first thing that he bought with his first pay is a laptop. Not a useless gadget or accessory but something that he can use for work. It’s his first step towards being a grownup.

Hosting Research

Researching for ecommerce web hosting is no easy task. I’ve compared several packages but all of them look the same, just varying in the monthly rates. I’m comfortable choosing basic web hosting but not e-commerce where there are important features to consider such as payment processing, SSL, etc. The reviews aren’t that many and not sure if any of them are reliable. All I know right now is that I’d shortlist any company that can answer my pre-sales question in less than 24 hours. I need to send my proposal to my client in three days and hopefully I can find the package that will meet our requirements.

Macbook Pro 2011

I’ve browsed enough Apple reseller web sites to know that the quote that I got for my much coveted Macbook Pro was the cheapest. I’ve also researched for the most affordable lcd monitor that I can use so that should be all set. Even the monthly amortization was perfect – $110 a month for the next 12 months. The only thing stopping me from purchasing it was the rumor that the MBP 2011 model will be released in a few months. Not sure if I should wait (I couldn’t wait any more honestly) but a core i3 or i5 would be nice on a 13″.

Adding Character to Bottle Labels

Posted in computers, graphics and web design on January 9th, 2011 by admin – Be the first to comment

I am currently designing for bottle labels but I’m stuck on the actual dimensions. I tried printing them but when I placed them on my mother-in-law’s diet supplements for comparison, the text are just too big. My brother, who is a veteran graphics/print designer is taking too long to answer so I’ll just have to send the concept and wonder about the printing later. Speaking of labels, check out these cool label / packaging designs that I saw while looking for inspiration.

Pretty cool for a bottle, huh?
