From wikipedia – Taal Volcano is a complex volcano on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. It is situated between the towns of Talisay and San Nicolas in Batangas. It consists of an island in Lake Taal, which is situated within a caldera formed by an earlier, very powerful eruption. It is located about 50 km (31 Miles) from the capital, Manila. It is one of the active volcanoes in the Philippines, all part of the Pacific ring of fire.
The volcano has erupted violently several times, causing loss of life in the populated areas surrounding the lake, the current death toll standing at around 5,000 – 6,000. Because of its proximity to populated areas and eruptive history, the volcano has been designated a Decade Volcano worthy of close study to prevent future natural disasters. It was thought to be named as “a volcano inside a volcano” because many believed that the lake that circles the volcano was once a crater or mouth of a volcano.
Booking Through Thursday – Niche
Posted in entertainment, graphics and web design, photography, what's up on June 11th, 2009 by admin – 11 CommentsThere are certain types of books that I more or less assume all readers read. (Novels, for example.)
But then there are books that only YOU read. Instructional manuals for fly-fishing. How-to books for spinning yarn. How to cook the perfect souffle. Rebuilding car engines in three easy steps. Dog training for dummies. Rewiring your house without electrocuting yourself. Tips on how to build a NASCAR course in your backyard. Stuff like that.
What niche books do YOU read?
Oh, this is easy. I read the following:
1. Photography – we have coffee books, a century worth of portraits, the best news photography, black and white, and a few books on improving your photography skills.
2. Web and graphic design books. Computer software books.
3. Interior Design books. You just can never be too inspired.
4. Travel books – the best places to eat, stay, have a weekend trip, long drives, honeymooners and family oriented vacation homes
5. Architecture. I just love all kinds of buildings and structures
6. “Books” on how to draw anime style. Books on watercolor painting.
7. Atlas. Oh yes. This is very essential to me now as I could easily get lost. Plus we are currently looking to buy a land for our future home so when a broker tells me that there’s an opening somewhere, I go and quickly consult my atlas.
