A Break from Working from Home

Seeing a lot of tech jobs online is making me wonder if I should go back to the corporate world. I do love working from home, having my own time with an occasional face-time with colleagues in the US. However, it’s just not the same as climbing up the corporate ladder, dealing with office politics, dressing up to impress coworkers and clients and simply brainstorming with a team personally. I know I will always change my mind but right now, I wouldn’t mind having a conference meeting in an actual conference room or a quick coffee fix just to catch up with project updates.

Valentine Treat

Ordering gourmet gift online is a tried and tested way to say thanks to my clients. It’s very convenient since they can deliver it straight to their offices or houses. You can never go wrong with gourmet food. A carefully selected cheese and chocolates can do wonders, even to non-foodies. If they don’t like it, they can always give it to their kids, friends or host a party and have someone else enjoy it. Overall, you can never go wrong with these:

Feel Beautiful Inside and Out

It’s really great how sexy lingerie come in all kinds of sizes. Not all women are stick figures no matter how many runway models display their thin and bony bodies wearing too small clothes that we’re supposed to buy. One of my favorites are the plus size corsets that are perfect for my bride-to-be friends. It does not only shrink the extra bulges but it makes a woman feel sexy even if she’s the only one who knows that she’s wearing it. Just imagine the face of their future husbands when they see those corsets under their lovely gowns. It will be like going back in time when Mr. Darcy would help Liz Bennet get dressed. (yeah, I was reading a totally different version of pride and prejudice)

Five-Star Treatment

My friends and I are watching this show featuring a residential rehab. All we could talk about is how being admitted to a rehab such as the one from the show resembles an expensive 3-nights stay at one of those posh out of town, members only getaways. I’m sure the rates are high but if ever I need to be treated, I’d be grateful to my family and friends if they can check me in a similar establishment. After all, a comfortable setting is a must when it comes to facing personal issues that led to their addiction in the first place. Anyway, kudos to those who thought about the comforts of the clients. Who wouldn’t look forward to day to day therapy if you have to do it in a 5-star setting?

Let It Snow

Climate change is scary. One minute you live in a city where snow is unheard of and the next, you’re looking for snow blowers to clean the driveway. A friend of mine got excited seeing snow for the first time. Imagine the fun of building a snowman with the kids or doing angel wings on their front yard. However, after getting four feet of snow for weeks, she’s ready to call it quits. She sent me some photos and all I can say was how beautiful and magical their street have become. But she couldn’t see the beauty of it anymore especially when they still need to go to work.

LEARN

I received an email from a friend who’s having problems getting jobs in health care industry. I already told her plenty of times to submit her resumes to job hunting web sites but it seems she haven’t done that, seeing as she’s asking me the URLs again. I promised not to baby-sit her anymore so I’m leaving it to her to find a solution to her job situation. Besides, I got some job woes myself. For one, I need to get back into designing groove. My design skills and techniques need some updating really bad. My boss-client is visiting soon and I’m sure we’ll have tons of work to discuss, leaving me no time at all to learn new things. So for this week’s to-do, I’ll put “LEARN” on the top of my list and make sure that I cross it off before the week ends.

Work Distraction

Started my day shopping for Velo binding machine. My brother’s need some replacing and asked for my help to get some quotes online. While researching for that, I also saw some great deals on color printer. I think it’s time for me to invest on a higher end since most of my clients are venturing into print projects. I’m tired of sending graphics back and forth just because I couldn’t check the colors myself.

Aside from that and this is totally off-topic, I just found the nicest pair of brogues. Thanks to an online friend who showed me Madewell’s Spring 2011 Lookbook.

One Down

Everyone’s wearing a silk bow tie on the last even that I attended. Fortunately, I listened to my mom who told me to always wear my little black dress if I wasn’t sure how strict the host will be on the dress code. Not only did I look like I belong, but I was so thrilled that my 6-year-old dress now fits me, post-partum. Amazing what breastfeeding and sleepless nights can do to one’s weight.

Anyway, that’s the last party this year. I am now looking forward to a quiet New year’s eve spent with my family. We are checking in in a hotel in the city so we can take advantage of their dinner buffets and great fireworks display.
